Daffodils paraphrase a poem by William Wordsworth (1770 – 1850)

Daffodils Stanza 1:

I wandered lonely as a cloud

That floats on high o’er vales and hills,

When all at once I saw a crowd,

A host of golden daffodils;

Beside the lake, beneath the trees,

Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

Daffodils Paraphrase Stanza 1 – 9th Class English Notes:

Once I was walking alone in the countryside like a cloud which floats at some high place over valleys and hills. Suddenly, I came across a large number of blooming daffodils. They had a golden appearance.  The daffodils were growing along the bank of a lake under the trees. They were moving to and fro in the breeze and seemed to be dancing.

Daffodils Stanza 2:

Continuous as the stars that shine

And twinkle on the milky way,

They stretched in never-ending line

Along the margin of a bay:

Ten thousand saw I at a glance,

Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.

Daffodils Paraphrase Stanza 2 – 9th Class English Notes:

The daffodils were very close to one another and forming a continuous pattern. They looked like stars of Milky Way galaxy shining in the sky. They formed a very long continuous line along the bank of a lake. At a single glance, I was able to see ten thousand daffodils. They were swaying their heads and dancing happily in the breeze.

Daffodils Stanza 3:

The waves beside them danced, but they

Out-did the sparkling waves in glee;

A poet could not but be gay,

In such a jocund company!

I gazed – and gazed – but little thought

What wealth the show to me had brought:

Daffodils Paraphrase Stanza 3 – 9th Class English Notes:

The waves in the lake were dancing near the daffodils. But the daffodils surpassed the shining waves in their beauty. The poet had no choice but to be happy in the company of the flowers. He kept on looking at the daffodils for a long time. The poet thought little about the wealth of happiness which the beautiful scene had given him.

Daffodils Stanza 4:

For oft, when on my couch I lie

In vacant or pensive mood,

They flash upon that inward eye

Which is the bliss of solitude;

And when my heart with pleasure fills,

And dances with daffodils.

Daffodils Paraphrase Stanza 4 – 9th Class English Notes:

Whenever I am lying in my bed in a free or thoughtful mood, this sight comes before the eyes of my mind. It serves as a source of happiness in my loneliness. Whenever I remember this sight, my heart is filled with joy. It begins to dance with joy with the daffodils.
